Live streaming for universities and research institutions

Thesis and diploma defences, department conferences, open lectures and open days. We set up the cameras, direct the broadcast and record every session; questions from the room and from online viewers come together in OnFocus. With several rooms, each one gets its own camera plan and its own recording.

team on air since 2011 2,800+ broadcasts, shoots and hybrid events — as of 1 June 2026 every session recorded questions via OnFocus several rooms
Use cases

What it is for

Thesis defence

The candidate, the slides and the committee on screen. Remote participants join as remote speakers: the room and the online audience see and hear them.

Diploma defences

A long line of presentations in one room: the director keeps up with speaker and slide changes, and the recording follows the programme blocks.

Department conference

A plenary session and breakout sections, talks with slides, and lower thirds with speaker names from your programme.

Open lecture

One lecturer in one area — the Compact package with a fixed shot is enough. A lecture with audience questions is run by a director.

Open day

Talks by the leadership and faculties for applicants and parents, online questions, and a recording for the admissions page.

Lecture by a remote guest

A speaker from another city joins the room and the broadcast. We send them a guide in advance and test their setup.

Questions and polls

Questions from the room and online in one place

Attendees open the OnFocus event page from a link or a QR code on their phones and ask questions, whether they sit in the room or watch online. Polls run there too. Pre-moderation is available: a university moderator sees each question first, and only approved ones reach the speaker and the screen. We agree on who moderates and how questions reach the speaker during preparation.
One room or several

Parallel defences and sections

One room

One directing setup and one continuous broadcast — for defences and lectures that run one after another.

Several rooms

Each room gets its own cameras, sound, stream and recording. These setups receive a programme-specific estimate, with the crew and limits agreed before work starts.

Recording and archive

What the university decides and what we do

The defence procedure, the committee and the recording requirements are set by the university and the dissertation council. Our role is technical: cameras, sound, connections with remote participants, the broadcast, the recording and access to the stream. Send your recording and storage requirements together with the programme, and we will build them into the technical plan.
Questions and answers

University live streaming FAQ

Can a defence include remote participants?

Technically yes: remote participants join as remote speakers, and the room and the online audience see and hear them. The number of remote speakers in the estimate depends on the package; each gets a technical test of up to 15 minutes. Whether remote participation is possible and how the procedure runs is decided by the university and the council under their own rules.

How do you collect questions from the room and online?

Through OnFocus: attendees open the event page from a link or a QR code and type questions on their phones. Pre-moderation can be switched on so that only approved questions reach the speaker. We agree on the moderation process during preparation.

Can the broadcast be closed to outsiders?

Yes. OnFocus access can be limited to a list of emails: a participant enters an address from the list and joins without registering. We agree on the access method during preparation.

How long is the recording kept?

We hand over the directed recording as a local file immediately after the broadcast. We store it for 60 days and extend storage for free on request. On request, we host recordings on our own Tube video hosting with no ads; hosting is priced in the estimate.

How do you quote several rooms?

Send the programme with rooms and times. Each room needs its own cameras, sound and recording; the crew and limits are fixed in a custom estimate before work starts.

Do you work outside Moscow?

Yes. We are based in Moscow: travel within the Moscow Ring Road is included in the packages, and transport beyond the Ring Road and travel expenses are agreed separately.

After the event: the OnFocus KPI report and a detailed event report by OnFocus.ru AI built from the recordings of every room: topics, timing against the programme, requests from the stage, disputes and risky moments; ready within a few days.

Included AI: captions and voiced translation into one selected supported language for one source stream, within the live hours. Extra languages and parallel streams are quoted in advance.

We agree on scope and price before the event. Additional work requires agreement first. Any live extension is quoted as one total covering the crew, video delivery and AI. No VAT. The service provider uses the automated simplified tax system (AUSN).
